Do you use KakaoTalk? If you have many Korean friends, then you most likely know what I am talking about. If not, this article may not be of your interest. Or you never know, if you like, keep reading and you may find it interesting, you want to share it with some of your Korean friends!
So, if you are not sure what it is, KakaoTalk is a mobile messaging app just like WhatsApp, Line, and Discord. It is widely used in Korea and in Asia.
Now with the current hype of ChatGPT, they have come up with this thing called AskUp.
Basically, it is like having a ChatGPT inside the messenger. You can simply ask questions and it will answer you!
How to install AskUp in your KakaoTalk
It is a quite straightforward process. Simply open up your kakaotalk and click on the search bar and type in AskUp. Then click on the yellow sign which says add to your channel.
That's it. Once you add it, it will bring up the chatroom with the conditions. I am not sure if it will come up in English when you don't have Korean font. Anyway, even if it comes up in Korean, don't worry. Basically, it is saying, "I've only learned the information up to Oct. 2021, so I might be wrong, don't blame me. If you are fine with it, then use it."
How to use AskUp
If you have used ChatGPT, then it is exactly the same. In some ways, it's even better because it has an OCR function. OCR function is Optical Character Recognition, meaning that it can read from an image.
You can see how it can be used from the screenshots below.
I asked about the famous beaches in Sydney and then asked to translate the content.
You can see it gives you the answers so easily!
In order to check the OCR function, I took a picture of a page from a book and uploaded it on the chat. Straight away, it said how many words it contained. As I asked for the text, it gave me an English translation. So I asked for the actual Korean text, and it gave me that!
Amazing, huh? I thought this could be so useful, especially when you are overseas and trying to buy some ingredients or something that has instructions in it. Now you can simply take a photo and this will do everything else!
Where are we heading with all these AI technologies?
Some say it is very scary when they see what AI can do these days. Correct, they are bloody quick and never get tired of anything! (Oh well, they do get things wrong at times, too.)
However, it is humans that will be using them to benefit mankind. So, I feel, as long as we, as humans, have clear conscience, this is truly exciting, and something we can really look forward to witnessing what's in the future for us!
chatGPT also has an image ready now with chatGPT 4.0! Very cool that they have these things in messaging apps though, very convenient
