From Blogging to Pet-Sitting: The Unexpected Perks of an N-Jobbler

Writer: Bright WisdomBright Wisdom

Have you ever heard of the term N-Jobbler? It’s a Konglish (Korean-English) word that describes someone juggling multiple jobs—often freelancers or gig workers balancing various roles.

Since I started blogging, a whole new world has opened up for me. What began as a simple passion project led me to unexpected opportunities, from small gigs to bigger one-off jobs—like interpretation work. In a way, I’ve become an N-Jobbler myself!

Among the different side hustles I’ve taken on, my absolute favorite is pet-sitting.

I love dogs, but with my lifestyle, owning one isn’t practical. Frequent travel and a busy schedule make it hard to provide the stability and care a pet deserves.

So instead, I became a pet sitter, and occasionally, I even get to host a dog for a few days—best job ever!

My Experience with Pet-Sitting

Sydney has several pet-sitting platforms, and I’m part of Mad Paws. It’s simple: after registering as a sitter, I receive messages from dog owners looking for someone to care for their pets, whether for a day or a few nights.

If the schedule and conditions align, I accept the booking—and just like that, I get to spend time with an adorable dog!

Hosting a dog feels less like a job and more like a joyful experience. I take them for walks twice a day (which is a great exercise for me, too!), and while I work in my office (I work from home), they nap peacefully nearby, giving me a comforting sense of companionship. And at the end of it all, I get a little extra pocket money—getting paid for something that doesn’t feel like work? Yes, please!

Meet Buzz, the American Staffordshire Terrier

Today, I’m hosting Buzz, a big, beautiful American Staffordshire Terrier. He’s such a sweetheart—a true gentleman. As I looked into his deep, soulful eyes, I felt like he was silently saying:

I am alive, and I love you.

It reminded me of a story about the Spanish bullfighter Domingo López Ortega.

At the moment he was about to strike his final blow, he locked eyes with the bull and felt something overwhelming—shame, empathy, and a deep realization.

In that moment, I saw not a beast, but a soul looking back at me. I felt its pain, its confusion, its innocence. And I knew—I could never do this again.

That story has always stayed with me. It makes me hope for a world where humans live with compassion, and animals live as they were meant to—free from unnecessary suffering.

Final Thoughts

Pet-sitting has brought unexpected joy and meaningful reflections into my life. Who knew a simple gig could teach me so much about connection, kindness, and the value of all living beings?

Thanks for reading, and I hope you had a beautiful day! 😊
