What is Buy Me a Coffee?
It is a platform that allows content creators to receive support from their audience in the form of one-time payments or recurring subscriptions. I just found out about it last night while doing some research on blogging. So if you are creating Youtube content or planning to be a creator, why not learn about it too?
There are similar platforms like Patreon and Ko-fi, but I only found out about them after I joined Buy Me a Coffee. So, I will just talk about what I know about BMC so far. Also, I haven't got that much content to be really asking for support yet I guess.
On Buy Me a Coffee, creators can set up a profile, share their work, and receive support from their fans. The platform takes a small fee from each transaction, and creators can withdraw their earnings to their bank account.
How to join BMC
Joining Buy Me a Coffee is easy and free. Here are the steps to sign up:
1. Go to the Buy Me a Coffee website https://www.buymeacoffee.com/
2. Click on the "sign up" button in the top right corner of the homepage.
3. You can sign up using either one of your Google, Twitter, or Facebook accounts, otherwise, you can also sign up using your email address.
3. Once you've signed up, you'll be asked to create your profile. You can add a profile picture, a banner image, and a description of what you do.
4. You can also connect your social media accounts, add links to your website or other platforms, and set up your payment preferences.
After you've set up your profile, you can start sharing your work and receiving support from your audience.
Adding the link to your website
To add Buy Me a Coffee links to your website, you can follow these steps:
Go to your menu bar on the top right corner and click on dashboard.
Then on your bottom left, click on "Buttons and Graphics" under settings.
Choose website buttons and customize your support button by selecting the button style, color, and text.
Click on the 'Copy Code' button to copy the HTML code for your button.
Go to your website's editor and navigate to the page where you want to add the support button and paste the code.
Save your changes and preview the page to make sure the button appears correctly.
If this sounds too complicated, the easier way is to simply hyperlink it to text with your link.
It took a while for me to figure it out. When I saw the code and HTML, my brain just stopped thinking, this is Russian to me now... but somehow I must've stumbled on the right path as it actually appeared correctly on my page. Just like here!
No Free lunch? Maybe No Free Coffee either!
This is just the beginning and a great learning experience for me. I don't expect the support will just flood through without anything. People aren't stupid and the world doesn't work that way either. I am just saying this in case you are expecting something unrealistic, like how many of the Youtube thumbnails will say "$1000 every day!"
When you create content that is helpful and useful, then this is a wonderful way for you to be rewarded and also a great way for the audience to show you their appreciation. It can work for both to be happy! Also, the creator will be more motivated and feel responsible to create good and useful content.
