Last weekend’s drive up to the Central Coast turned into something I hadn’t planned—an unexpected yet magical dance photography session inside Ghosties Beach Cave!
I had planned a simple Sunday outing with friends. Despite the morning rain, we weren’t about to let a little drizzle dampen our spirits. If you’ve lived in Australia long enough, you know that rain rarely stops you—unless it’s a serious downpour. So, we hopped in the car and headed north, ready for adventure.
We parked near Ghosties Beach, a quiet, hidden gem tucked away in Munmorah State Conservation Area. Before setting off on our walk, we took a moment to go barefoot on the sand—a practice known as grounding. In Korea, they call it earthing, and it’s believed to have incredible health benefits. Walking barefoot on the beach is even referred to as super-earthing, as the combination of natural minerals, moisture, and ocean energy makes it one of the best ways to reconnect with nature.
Since the drizzle hadn’t completely let up and the waves were a bit too strong for swimming, we decided to explore instead. That’s when someone mentioned a must-see cave at the far end of the beach. With plenty of time on our hands, we figured—why not?
As we made our way towards the cave, the beach was eerily empty, apart from the mist rolling in from the ocean. Maybe that’s why they call it Ghosties Beach—the fog, the solitude, and the moody atmosphere certainly gave it an otherworldly feel.
Then, finally, the cave came into view—and wow, what a hidden treasure!
I felt so lucky to have found this place! The rock formations were absolutely stunning, and we were also very lucky to arrive at low tide, the only time the cave is accessible.
Talk about perfect timing!
Once inside, we discovered another open space with a breathtaking ocean view. The moment we stepped in, we couldn’t stop gasping in awe. The light streaming in from the cave’s entrance created the most surreal effect, but there was one small challenge—when taking photos, people appeared as dark silhouettes against the bright backdrop.
And that’s when inspiration struck—why not use this setting for dance photography?
I struck a few poses while my friends snapped away, capturing the dramatic contrast between my movements and the glowing cave entrance. Some of them knew I was a dancer, but they had never actually seen me in action, so it was a fun surprise for them as well.
At one point, I even grabbed a yellow umbrella we had brought along, using it as a prop—and the results were surprisingly artistic!
The photos turned out far better than I expected, proving once again that spontaneous moments often create the best memories.
Even though the weather wasn’t ideal, it didn’t matter one bit. We had an amazing time, and I know for sure that I’ll be back—to swim, to see the cave under clear blue skies, and to soak in a different kind of beauty.
That’s it for today! I hope you enjoyed this little adventure as much as I did.
Thanks for reading and have a fantastic day!
